A Study on the Relations between Cancer Stage and Prognosis of Gastric Cancer Patients



Abstract
For the purpose to fined out the relations between cancer stage and prognosis of gastric cancer patients, the author performed mail and telephone surveys from 850 persons who had been operated gastric cancer at a general hospital in Taejon city
from
1985 to 1991.
Information was collected and analyzed from 280 persons.
Follow results were obtained therefrom.
1. Among variables, sex, education levels, religions, smoking and diagnosed year showed statistically significant relations to gastic cancer stage.
2. Later stage patients showed higher death rates, but recently diagnosed patients showed lower death rates.
3. Odds ratio of cancer stage between death and alive group showed as follows; If the odds ratio of stage 1 was 1.0 then that stage 2 was 1.43, stage 3 was 3.35(P<0.01) and if odds ratio adjusted by the time of diagnosed year stage 2 was 1.56,
stage 3
was 3.09(P<0.01).
